Engine clicking like it's working something out
Radio's stuck on a weather report and a drought
Left the sunscreen on the counter, forgot the bait
Cooler's down to two warm ones and a ribeye steak
Bobby tried the choke twice, said give it a minute
Everything looks perfect — boat's the only thing not in it
Boat won't start but we ain't going nowhere
Sun's out, dock's down, and nobody cares
Six cold ones left and the lake's like glass
Turns out the best days don't need no gas
Captain Jim's been under the hood for half an hour
Says he almost had it but the battery's gone sour
Somebody jumped in — now the dock's all wet
Nobody's watched the boat in twenty minutes yet
Bobby tried the choke twice, said give it a minute
Everything looks perfect — boat's the only thing not in it
Boat won't start but we ain't going nowhere
Sun's out, dock's down, and nobody cares
Six cold ones left and the lake's like glass
Turns out the best days don't need no gas
Jim wiped his hands and said "she's done for the day"
I said "Jim, sit down — wasn't going anywhere anyway"
He looked at the water, looked at the beer in my hand
Said "you know what, you're right" — and grabbed one off the sand
Said "twenty years I been fixing what didn't need fixed"
I said "first one you ever broke on purpose" — and we both just sat with it
Engine still dead, sun coming down slow
He said "same time next week?" — I said "where else would I go"
Boat won't start but we ain't going nowhere
Sun's out, dock's down, and nobody cares
Six cold ones left and the lake's like glass
Turns out the best days don't need no gas
Boat won't start
Boat won't start
