If Shaggy Says You Good

By Jimmy Shoals · One More Round Of Sunshine

Boat pushes off in the morning sun, just sailing across Negril Bay, Shaggy on the rail,— twenty years he been this way. Calls out “Wa Gwan” to the beachside crews as we slide past the sand, They shout back “BIG UP!”— 'cause he’s always in demand. Cooler in the corner, tanks lined up in a row, Check your buddy,— let your buddy check you… then we good to go. Grinning like trouble, but you trust him somehow, “Stick close to me… I’ll show you around.” It’s Saturday morning… you know how we roll, Two tanks waiting… for a deep-sea soul. Dropping in at Shark Reef… where the big ones play, Just follow the bubbles… Shaggy leads the way. Time on my watch… nine thirty-five, Regulators in now… let’s go for a dive. If Shaggy says you good,— then you good, my friend If Shaggy says you good,— don’t ask again Down where the reef rolls,— where the stories all start If you came with Shaggy,— you’re already part. Down past the drop where the light starts to fade, Twenty years of stories… on that dive boat shade. He taps on his tank just to get our attention, A nurse shark…cruisin’ without apprehension. Talking ‘bout mermaids just off the reef side, Says the Brazilian ones show up late for high tide. Half of us laughing, bubbles drifting away, The other half swearin’… it was their day today. We come up grinning, masks pushed up on our heads, He says “you saw her or not… don’t matter what I said.” If I know your name,— you ain’t lost out here, Just stay close to me,— sharks might be near. If Shaggy says you good,— then you good, my friend If Shaggy says you good,— don’t ask again Down where the reef rolls,— where the stories all start If you came with Shaggy,— you’re already part. Back on the sand, gear piled up by the bar, Salt on our skin, still talkin’ ‘bout what we saw. Hy-dray-shun beers,— yeah, that’s what we call it, Cold Red Stripe in hand… just to be safe about it. Gear in the corner, tanks leanin’ on wood, Somebody say “one more”— yeah, we probably should. Shaggy just laughin’, say “just another day in paradise,” Headin’ on home… for some Crown on ice. If Shaggy says you good,— then you good, my friend Whole damn boat now,— singin’ it again If Shaggy says you good,— don’t ask no more From the sand to the reef,— from the sand to the shore. If Shaggy says you good,— then you good, my friend Just don’t run outta air… or you’re payin’ him down there If Shaggy says you good… then you good, my friend.
