Now before anybody here starts judging me tonight…
You should know one thing.
I had a plan.
I was gonna have ONE drink…
and head on home.
But that bottle of rum…
had a completely different plan.
I stopped in for one as the sun dipped low,
Dock lights coming on as the tide rolled slow,
Bartender slid me a glass with a grin,
Said "Careful my friend, that rum'll pull you in."
Next thing I know I'm buying a round,
Singing old bar songs way too loud,
Some stranger's teaching me a drunken spin,
And I swear that drink had it out for me then.
Rum made me do it
I swear it wasn't me
That bottle started talking
And I just let it be
Rum made me do it
Now look at this scene
If anybody asks tonight
Blame that Care-uh-BEE-an queen
Somebody strung up a hammock on the pier,
Somebody cranked the jukebox another gear,
I'm dancing with a girl I just met,
Pretty sure I lost somebody's bet.
Old captain yelling "Let's take a ride!"
Pontoon rocking on the midnight tide,
By the time somebody handed me the keys,
I was captain of the boat and singing karaoke.
Rum made me do it
I swear it wasn't me
That bottle started talking
And I just let it be
Rum made me do it
Now look at this scene
If anybody asks tonight
Blame that Care-uh-BEE-an queen
Some nights roll in and never slow down,
Some nights turn the whole bar upside down,
Stories get better the less you explain,
Especially after a splash of cane.
But if somebody asks
Why the dock's still alive,
Just say the rum
Took over the drive.
Now I know some of you out there tonight…
you've had that same bottle talkin' to you.
Don't even try to deny it.
I can see it from up here.
You know the drill.
Help me send this one home.
Rum made me do it
I swear it wasn't me
That bottle started talking
And I just let it be
Rum made me do it
Now look at this scene
If anybody asks tonight
Blame that Care-uh-BEE-an queen
Now if any of y'all are thinking
that sounds like a bad idea…
You're probably right.
But it wasn't me.
It was the rum.
Rum made me do it
Rum made me do it
Rum made me do it
I swear it wasn't me
