I probably shouldn't tell you this story…
but you ever have one of those nights
that starts out harmless enough?
Just a drink…
maybe two…
Next thing you know you're chasing the moon
halfway down the shoreline,
laughing like you've known somebody
your whole life.
And by the time the sun comes up
you're still trying to piece together
how the hell it all happened.
…yeah.
This was one of those nights.
I met a girl over tonic and gin,
Said she specialized in beautiful sins,
We danced till closing at the Rusty Star,
And woke up naked by the reservoir.
The SUN gets STRONGER,
The BEER gets COLDER,
These are the nights we'll always be,
Toasting friends and feeling free.
Sunburns and stories,
That's how it goes,
Laughing 'bout the trouble
Nobody else would know.
Sunburns and stories,
Rum and guitars,
Some nights you remember,
Some legends are born in bars.
She said the moon made the water look right,
Next thing I knew we were dancing in the moonlight,
She spied the hammock, said "let's take a ride,"
Damn thing snapped and left me on my backside.
The SUN gets STRONGER,
The BEER gets COLDER,
These are the nights we'll always be,
Toasting friends and feeling free.
Sunburns and stories,
That's how it goes,
Laughing 'bout the trouble
Nobody else would know.
Sunburns and stories,
Rum and guitars,
Some nights you remember,
Some legends are born in bars.
By Sunday morning she slipped away,
Said she had a boat on MO-beel Bay,
Left me a kiss and a crooked little smile,
Still tell that story every once in a while.
The SUN gets STRONGER,
The BEER gets COLDER,
These are the nights we'll always be,
Toasting friends and feeling free.
Sunburns and stories,
That's how it goes,
Laughing 'bout the trouble
Nobody else would know.
Sunburns and stories,
Rum and guitars,
Some nights you remember,
Some legends are born in bars.
Now…
you know how I said I probably shouldn't tell you that story?
…I was definitely right.
But here we are.
And now it's your story too.
