The Afar Shall Blossom

By Jimmy Shoals · The Saltwater Sessions: Legends Of The Summer

Ocean wide and full of dreams, With coral fears and starlit schemes… The night lifts up her shadowed veil— We sail to seek the whispered tale. They set from cliffs where silence grows, Where Prince Henry watched the compass rose. No promise sure, no chart complete, Just endless stars and restless feet. The Southern Cross, a flame unknown, They chased its spark through seas alone. Beyond the fog, through salt and foam, They sailed to find a second home. Let's raise our sails where dreams may lie, Yo ho ho, 'neath the southern sky. From the lines, let colors bloom, Where seas and souls have room. The Afar shall blossom, let it be By firelight truths, or storm-tossed seas. SAH-grish whispers, ocean's breath, Where cliffs recall both life and death. Old ghosts linger in the spray, Still yearning for the break of day. Their names are etched in wind and wave, In storm and calm, both lost and brave. Raise a toast to charts they drew— We sail to find what still holds true. Bartolomeu, fire in grin, Defied the kings—let fate begin. He plundered gold, gave back to night, With cannon's roar and sword alight. "To moon and tide," his oath did swear, "I'll sail through death if freedom's there. Let no man's flag define my fate— My stars won't hang on heaven's gate." Let's raise our sails where dreams may lie, Yo ho ho, 'neath the southern sky. From the lines, let colors bloom, Where seas and souls have room. The Afar shall blossom, let it be By firelight truths, or storm-tossed seas. By driftwood flame, they sought the gods, While river queens gave solemn nods. A coin, a vow, a whispered plea— To guard their souls across the sea. The mast their shrine, the deck their stage, The waves their script from ancient page. And every crack in hull and beam Still echoes with a sailor's dream. A Dama do Mar (DAH-mah doo MAHR), she rose that night, Wrapped in foam and candlelight. With pearls for tears and eyes like flame, She sings names the sea has claimed. Some say she saves, some say she sways, A heart adrift in shifting haze. She waits where sea and stars collide, A whispered truth the waves can't hide. Let's raise our sails where dreams may lie, Yo ho ho, 'neath the southern sky. From the lines, let colors bloom, Where seas and souls have room. The Afar shall blossom, let it be By firelight truths, or storm-tossed seas. She waits beneath the drifting foam, A Dama do Mar, where sailors roam. And when the stars begin to fall, She'll sing the truth… and that is all.
