Few years ago…
Friend of mine took me down a road I didn't even know was there.
Said, "Don't worry about it… you'll see."
No sign.
No name.
Didn't look like much from the outside—
…but that's kinda the point.
Some places you don't find on your own…
…you just get shown once.
This is one of those.
First time somebody brought me here I didn't know the road
"You'll know it when you see it" was the only map he showed
Half a mile past the last light where the blacktop turns to gravel
Screen door hangin' half off square — not a place you'd plan to travel
Tiki light above the door, couple trucks backed in beside
Kind of place you'd drive right past unless somebody's there to guide
Best bar you've never heard of
Half the town don't even know the name
Kind of place you don't put on your phone—
Best bar you've never heard of
And that's exactly how it stays
She's been standin' behind that bar for somewhere near on thirty years
Sets your drink down without asking 'til the whole room disappears
Calls you something close to your real name — nobody makes a scene
Knows every story on those walls and what the photographs all mean
Same two stools that never open — been that way since I don't know
She remembers every face that's ever had the sense to show
Best bar you've never heard of
Half the town don't even know the name
Kind of place you don't put on your phone—
Best bar you've never heard of
And that's exactly how it stays
Heard a story 'bout a man who came by water in September
The version changes every time there's someone left to remember
Somebody swears he's still around — somebody says he moved along
Either way they're both still laughing and the night keeps going strong
Funny how the truth gets quieter the later that it gets
Another round comes down and somehow everybody forgets
Some places never put their name above the door to matter
Not everything worth having makes a noise or needs the chatter
Not everything was meant to be discovered on a search
Some things you get shown once — that's the whole of what it's worth
Best bar you've never heard of
Half the town don't even know the name
Kind of place you don't put on your phone—
Best bar you've never heard of
And that's exactly how it stays
Haven't been back there with him in a while—
Still take that turn every now and then
Doesn't look like anything's changed much—
Guess some places don't
