Three-Day Weekend

Thursday lunch the group chat went sideways— "Kenny's got a place, splittin' it three ways" By four o'clock nobody remembered their plans— Half of 'em canceled, the other half ran Packed what made sense and then threw in some more— Left a note on the counter, locked the door Nobody asked where we were going— Three-day weekend—we'll just have to see Three-day weekend—well, if we got Monday… Three-day weekend—ain't nobody in a hurry Plans went out somewhere around noon— By Friday night we were already through One more day nobody planned— That's the one that makes the whole thing land Three-day weekend—we don't say it out loud… but everybody's thinkin' it now Bobby rented something he had no business on— J.D. showed up with a case and an extension cord Nobody asked about parking or where we'd sleep— Figured we'd sort it after the second drink Night that started at a reasonable hour— Somehow it's dark and there's still two more Nobody called it early because nobody had to— Three-day weekend, Monday's still clean Three-day weekend—well, if we got Monday… Three-day weekend—ain't nobody in a hurry Plans went out somewhere around noon— By Friday night we were already through One more day nobody planned— That's the one that makes the whole thing land Three-day weekend—we don't say it out loud… but everybody's thinkin' it now Sunday evening and it ain't wrapped up yet— Cooper said "we still got one more, don't forget" People who were strangers when we pulled in Friday— Know your drink order and your tell by Sunday night Didn't pack for three days but we made it work— Can't explain exactly where we were That's the thing about taking the extra day— Turns out that's the day you were actually there First day you were still getting there— Second day you finally landed Third day was supposed to be the drive home— But Monday wasn't taken And that's the one they're still talking about— Three summers out and you still can't explain it right Three-day weekend—well, if we got Monday… Three-day weekend—ain't nobody in a hurry Plans went out somewhere around noon— By Friday night we were already through One more day nobody planned— That's the one that makes the whole thing land Three-day weekend—we don't say it out loud… but everybody's thinkin' it now Show up with your people and half a plan— Three-day weekend does the rest Nobody counts the cost 'til it's over— And nobody counts it then Three-day weekend Three-day weekend… One more day… Three-day weekend…
